"Turkish Cypriot government has decided on Wednesday that 60 percent of country's new flag carrier airlines company would be owned by a private company. The cabinet meeting concluded that 30 percent would be held by the government and 10 percent be owned by Turkish Airlines, or THY, Turkey's flag carrier. Government's decision is part of efforts to establish a new airlines company that would replace Cyprus Turkish Airlines, or KTHY, which went bankrupt in October following long-running financial problems and growing debts. Turkish Cypriot government spokesman Huseyin Ozgurgun said that the new airlines company would start operations in March 2011. Ozgurgun said staff of the new company would be chosen from former employees of KTHY. He said nearly 50 people per aircraft would be hired for the new company. KTHY had ended flights in June. Turkish government and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus agreed last October to establish a new airlines company to replace KTHY. Earlier efforts ended up with a decision on government bailout when Turkish Cypriot government decided to call for bids in May 2010 to find a private partner to KTHY. However, these efforts had failed." - LINK |

Update
Finally sorted out the blog, where people can follow through email when subscribed through RSS feeds.
We have also got another project in the pipe line, by our fellow member Hakan Hakki, who came up with the idea of also having a Birmingham Turkish Community Radio station, still in the works. Any more ideas, or would like to advertise on the blog feel free to either contact myself, Sevgi or Hakan.
Thank you
Halil

Whole Turkish Community "TOGETHER" again
Remember them times when 'Misafirlik' took place?
(A word that probably doesn't exist in anyones vocabulary.)
Remember them times when people used to come around other people's houses on Sunday's and wouldn't leave till after 11? Remember 'Turk geceleri'? Or even when there was weddings taking place and 'everyone' spoke to one another without beef taking place?
I wouldn't think so. So that's why myself & Sevgi hanim, have knocked heads together, rubbed brain cells ( of what's left) and thought, let's get things rolling. Lets TRY and get people together, because at the end of the day, we will be the next generation to come through, your kids will grow up, and ask who is who, what is what, and even forget about their mother tongue.
We thought, the only way people will talk is when someone starts something. So here it is. Halil & Sevgi have started it, and we will make it work. Dr. Osman did a great job to get it moving in the past, with the turkish school, and Turk gecesi (in birmingham), and I know London's turkish community is far greater than ours. So lets pull out fingers out, get together, and bring in people that didnt even know a turkish community existed in BIRMINGHAM!
Everyone is welcome. Full TURKISH, Part Turkish, Kibrisli. In the end we are ALL blood, and ignoring and living this "alone" life will not help the future of our kids. We don't want them to forget who they are, the culture, the family meaning and the reason that we exist.
As soon as you are invited; share, pass it on, invite, scream it, plaster it on your wall, let the people no that WE EXIST IN BIRMINGHAM, and that we need to get together. Let the unknown become known.
Halil & Sevgi.
P.S. 1st of January 2011 - the first even that will take place will be shared. This will be BIG! and I mean BIG! HADE!
